A small Eden, privately owned, publicly accessible hill towering ~800' above Dickerson, MD's bucolic, rolling countryside. Hikers, cars and bicycles are welcome. $5 voluntary donations are requested. Numerous hiking trails, rock abutments, parking areas, and picnic facilities. Sorry: no motorcycles.

Screw this place! 4pm on the most beautiful November 1st you can get- not a single cloud, 79 degrees, still colorful foliage... and CLOSED?! 4pm closed, no access to any trail. Not cool.

Apparently you can't pick onions either?

This is a beautiful hiking spot very close to DC. Privately owned. There is a $5 suggested donation (per car) for entry. Some of the trails are quite steep, but none are technical. Rock climbing can be done, "at your own risk." Hours are 8am-4pm. Parking lots can get pretty full during peak hiking seasons, but there is a lot of parking available overall. There are portapotties at the main parking lots, but not on Ephraim Road. Beautiful views from multiple overlooks. Highly recommended!

A quick 45 min drive from the DC area with great views on the summit. There are about a dozen or so parking spots before you enter right at the entrance where you can hike to the top. No cost to enter, there is a donation box though.

Takes about 30 minutes to hike to the summit from the entrance.
The road to the top is a one way, single car winding road. There are multiple parking areas not far from the summit with picnic tables, plenty of shade and trails.

I enjoyed a beautiful sunset at a stone structure near the last parking lot below the summit, it forms a pavilion on the roof that provides a beautiful lookout.

Had a simply magnificent day for my first hike at Sugarloaf. A perfect sunny Spring day, and quite unusual apparently, saw very few people. Hiked up to the overlooks on the white ànd blue trails and back down using blue and yellow trails. Round trip of 7.7 miles and 3.5 hours with time spent at the overlooks.

Very little parking at the entrance where I parked but lots more midway up the mountain using the park road. By the size of the lots it's clear to see the park becomes very crowded on weekends, and I have been told that, too.

Restrooms near entrance otherwise port-johns near the larger parking areas.

A great place to hike! There is a box for donations at the entrance with a suggested donation of $5.00 but it is not mandatory. If hiking on Saturday or Sunday come early! They've expanded parking near the east view lot but it still gets very busy around mid-day. I've been coming here to hike for the past 32 years and some of my earliest memories are playing on the fort at the west view parking area. Again, it's free to hike just be sure to bring your own water and snacks as there is no longer a concession stand at West View.
