Beautiful area with lots of walking/hiking/biking trails. Large lake for fishing, canoes, kayaks, small boat ramp, concession available in season. The campground is very nice. Sites are electric only, but there is water available throughout the park and a dump station near the exit. Lots of ducks on the lake and turkeys walking around the park. Some trails walk along the water.

Illinois' largest state park, about an hour and a half drive from Chicago, is definitely worth a trip out. There's a good sized lake with a boat ramp and fishing and and tons of trails for horseback riding, hiking or mountain biking. We came in the fall and the colors were beautiful. Close enough to Wisconsin to get some New Glarus afterwards!

I absolutely love camping here! Very scenic and peaceful! They have a small camp store and a big concessions stand if you need anything. Staff are very friendly and nice! However, the shower building Is NOT well kept! Found bugs all over the shower while I was in there, there's weird substances on the shower walls, there's spider webs EVERYWHERE, and the shower curtains are so old that the medal rings holding them up are rusting! Also the water smells like rotten fish! I love staying here but would maybe find a different place to shower.

This is a nice park for light hiking and picnicking. The weedy lake was not very enticing to swim in the roped of area. Forget about distance swimming. Not allowed. Lake is good for learning how to kayak and canoe. The hiking trails wind around in a given area. Impossible to get lost. We did come across what appeared to be a fresh water stream. There is a bike lane going along the main road through the park. The water fountain by the main boat dock was not working. The interstate cuts through the park. There are nicer and more secluded parks in northern Illinois.

So many ticks, so be careful when bringing your pups & make sure you check them after or atleast have the flea/tick prevention on them. Great trails & views! So many paths to choose from & they have a few different fishing ponds, including one for the kiddos.

Very nice... picnic areas are really good. Lots of places to walk. Nice small restaurant. Pierce Lake is beautiful. Never knew such a beautiful place existed so nearby.

Yay! We were hoping to find cicadas here and we were not disappointed! Appreciated that there's was no fee to get in. Lots and lots of people enjoying the park. We encountered people hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, and lots of picnicking. Would have liked signage close to entrance to show trail systems and park details. The pit toilet bathrooms were clean, though rusty doors. Please put down lids people!

My first time ever there. Kayaking was a blast. I brought my niece, and my 2 children. I really wanted to give it 5 ⭐ However, I didn't know the beach and kayaking was separate, and you have to pay for swimming in addition. Maybe an all included package could be offered. The sand was clean. But, the water was filled with top seaweed in the shallow end. Any beach we've been to that has a fea, the water is a lot cleaner. We definitely will be back to kayak, but not swim.
