Roxborough State Park is such an excellent visit. With a Leave No Trace Gold Standard Site certification, this park is one of the cleanest and best preserved places to see some truly stunning rock formations and animals. The trails are well marked, and the ranger station is always staffed with friendly and knowledgeable folks. There are flush toilets and a nice educational exhibit in the ranger station/ visitor center. No dogs allowed (exception for service animals, I believe). I definitely recommend you check out one of Colorado’s best State Parks.

Spectacular fall colors all along our 6.5 mile out and back to the top of Carpenter Peak. We saw a mule deer nibbling leaves under a tree canopy. Trail is in good condition and the incline is not too steep. A good hike for anyone in general good health and not too technical so you can look up to see the scenery versus at you feet.

No dogs allowed.

Roxborough State Park is a gem for both casual strollers and nature enthusiasts. The park boasts easy access trails that are perfect for a leisurely walk or a more vigorous hike. You'll find plenty of shaded benches along the way, offering restful spots to sit and enjoy the surroundings. The staff is incredibly helpful, ensuring a pleasant visit for everyone. Kids will love picking up an explorer backpack at the visitor center, adding an extra layer of fun to their adventure. Don't forget to pack water and snacks for a lovely picnic amidst the beautiful scenery. For a stunning vantage point, be sure to visit Lyons Lookout—it's an absolute must-see!

What a fantastic hidden gem of a park! We did a 10k in and out hike up Carpenter Peak (370m elevation gain). The hike up through scrub oak and pines is gradual with only a few switchbacks and great views of Denver along the way. Despite this single track being the most strenuous in the park, it is very doable compared to Eldorado Canyon and Chautauqua Park trails.

We recently visited Roxborough State Park with our two young kids, ages 4 and 7, and it was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations! The park’s stunning red rock formations and picturesque landscapes set the stage for an adventure filled with nature and exploration.

We started our day on the easy Willow Creek Loop, which turned out to be the perfect introduction for our little ones. The trail is well-maintained and accessible, making it ideal for families. The kids enjoyed spotting various plants and even some local wildlife, which kept their curiosity piqued. The small incline allowed them to walk at their own pace, and we took plenty of breaks to soak in the beautiful surroundings. The vibrant colors wild flowers, the meadow, and the rocks against the backdrop of the sky were nothing short of breathtaking.

As we continued our hike, the kids were so excited that they wanted to keep going. Their energy inspired us to take on the moderate South Rim Trail. This trail offered a bit more challenge, but it was absolutely worth it! The views were spectacular, showcasing the unique geological features of the park and providing several breathtaking vantage points that made the hike even more rewarding. We really enjoyed the fact that they had resting or sitting benches throughout the beautiful park.

One of the highlights was witnessing the diverse wildlife. We spotted birds, rabbits, and even some deer in the far distance. Teaching our kids about the animals and plants we encountered made the experience even more enriching. It was wonderful to see them so captivated by nature, asking questions and sharing their observations.

The park's facilities were also commendable. We appreciated the clean restrooms and picnic areas, which made it easy to enjoy a family lunch amidst the beauty of the park. After our hikes, we took some time to relax and reflect on our adventure, creating lasting memories together.

Overall, Roxborough State Park is a gem for families seeking outdoor fun. The combination of family-friendly trails, stunning scenery, and abundant wildlife made for a perfect day out. We all loved it so much that we’re already planning our next visit. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a lovely place to enjoy a day with the kids, Roxborough State Park is a must-visit destination!
