Visiting the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia was an incredibly fascinating experience! This museum offers a unique and intriguing journey into the world of medical history and pathology.

The exhibits are so well-curated and display an amazing array of medical artifacts, anatomical specimens, and historical instruments. Each one provides deep insights into the human body, medical anomalies, and the evolution of medical practices. It’s both educational and thought-provoking, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in the history of medicine.

The museum is beautifully maintained, and the staff are so knowledgeable and passionate about the exhibits. Their expertise really adds to the experience, providing context and happily answering any questions visitors may have.

The ambiance of the museum is both eerie and awe-inspiring, perfectly capturing the essence of medical history. The medicinal garden was particularly enlightening and educational, offering a wonderful addition to the overall experience.

Very interesting museum. I wish you could take pictures but I understand and respect why you can't. It was fascinating to see what a corset does to a rib cage. There's also a nice medicinal garden on the property as well.

Calling this place a museum is not entirely accurate. Mutters appear to be a club house with a basement converted to host some medical specimens from medical days long gone. There is an extensive collection of skulls along with jars containing half formed fetuses. While interesting, there are only a few things to see and you are unlikely needing more than an hour to examine them all. For the price of admission ($20 as of summer 2024), there are more interesting things to do in Philly. Photography is also not allowed in the museum section.

Literally drove from Florida specifically to visit and I was not disappointed. Made a second trip months later to revisit.

The displays were fantastic and mildly gruesome. The Hyrtl skull collection was probably my favorite display, but the entire experience was incredible.

Unfortunately, they do not *allow* photography except in a few areas. Truly a pity, because photos never do a thing justice and only ever make me want to visit in person.

It was an interesting experience - a little disturbing and even meta at some points. There’s a section where they have guests put sticky notes on the wall answering questions along the lines of “Do you think it’s right for us to bring in all of these bodies and body parts after they passed?”

Things like this are so subject to debate, it’s no wonder why they dedicated a whole room to it. Of course not everyone took answering the questions very seriously. There’s also a room they have dedicated to homeless community in Philadelphia which is also pretty cool.

They do not allow pictures past a certain point - I just took it literally enough that even upstairs and in the garden it wasn’t allowed (maybe I was wrong). The garden is beautiful!! It was probably one of the highlights of the trip there.

I’m pretty sure ticket prices are the same online and in person.

It was super interesting to see slides of Einstein's brain, The Soap lady (a Saponified body), gangrenous feet, ossified body parts, etc.
Be sure to check out the sliding drawers behind the stairs on the lower level of the main specimen room and the Medicinal Herb Garden outside.
