Loved this museum! It's cram packed full with period Antique Furnishings & Decorative Accessories. I wish there was a bit of wall text to explain the period rooms, but they are packed with so many wonderful objects! Seeing Kirklands' personal collection of objects in situ (his studio building moved to this location) is fascinating, as is his studio & strange strap painting contraption.

With its wide variety of artistic styles and media, the Kirkland is truly a hidden gem in plain sight. I say this because the museum was pleasantly uncrowded during our visit on a Friday morning. Just steps away from the DAM, this venue packs so many paintings, sculptures, furniture and artifacts into a relatively small space. You could easily spend a couple hours here poring over the contents, and then return a month later and do it all again! I am confident you would see new things you might have missed.
I loved the pointillism in Kirkland’s paintings, using vivid colors and abstract themes. Another highlight for me were the mid-century modern sofas and chairs, the vintage typewriters and tv’s, and SO much art deco pottery and glassware.
The key displaying all these tchotchkes without chaos ensuing is their expertise in curating and arranging everything in clever vignettes. Props to the Kirkland; they have a lovely little gift shop too. PS you can use your DAM membership to enter— what are you waiting for?

This may be my favorite museum I’ve ever visited. It is relatively small, but the quality of their collection is incredible. Each room/gallery is a different era of design. It is centered around furniture, paintings, pottery, and functional art. The plaques + mobile guide have a ton of info. I went on a Sunday and it was not busy at all. If you are into design/architecture (esp. mid century/art deco) this place is a must-see!

This is a small museum that houses objects from late 19th and early 20th American movements such as Art Nouveau, Bauhaus, and Art Deco. Some truly exquisite pieces here. It also features paintings by Kirkland and showcases his studio. This is a gem, not expensive, and can be enjoyed in an hour, though you could spend an entire afternoon here.

I am glad I visited the museum. Lots of beautiful and fun objects besides Kirkland’s paintings. Absolutely worth stopping by and diving into colorful world of Vance Kirkland and other artists!
I would not recommend to visit it the same day as Clifford Still museum since they have different approach in displaying objects. To my taste, Kirkland museum is too busy , every room is packed with pieces of art and decorative objects.

This was my third visit and the ideal opportunity to become a member of this exceptional museum. There are so many beautiful displays and exhibits. Vance Kirkland’s studio is a highlight. Each visit I fall in love with something new. 🙂 This trip there were some wild chairs to see—stop in and check them out.

I really love this museum. It is such a great treasure of Denver. Unfortunately the Denver Art Museum took possession of it and has new viewing and price changes. Now, if you want to see the Kirkland museum, you have to pay the full price of seeing this and the Denver Art Museum in one day. Why can't there be a 48 hour viewing window? Why can't there be two different prices and tickets/stickers for each museum? It takes a minimum of 1 hour to see everything in the Kirkland collection if you are not taking your time, and 2 hours to see the DAM if you aren't taking your time there either. I'm glad it is keeping the Kirkland afloat, but this is an awful decision. It affects people who get overstimulated easily, who may have disabilities, elderly folks, folks who get fatigued easily, or who don't have the whole day to waltz around multiple museum exhibits. Please figure out a better system for your museums.
