The only negative is the overnight camping. Lots of highway noise, and if you're a light sleeper, it can be hard to sleep. Everything else is great, clean water tons of places to explore. The hiking is good, well-used trails and miles of them. Only 30 minutes from Springfield. Camping, hiking, playing in the creek, and the shooting range are free to the public! Great for a day of fun

Our truck overheated and we just wanted to take a break for the night to let it cool until we could continue to our original destination. We thought it would be a good place, but homeless living here has us very nervous and we won't be here long. They really have it trashed up back there! Plus the traffic noise is loud.

Can't believe this is right off the highway and it took me years to finally visit! I went early in the morning and didn't encounter anyone until I was almost back to the parking lot. Decided to trail run the red trail all the way down to the yellow/blue and back. Lovely views and my favorite were actually the river crossings, of which I encountered three. Bring your water shoes. All the trails were well marked and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

My husband recently met a member of the Busiek family who donated this property to the state. When he thanked her for her family's selfless gift she replied "take care of it. It's yours now."
I can honestly say after hiking it today people are doing just that. The trails see a lot of local traffic but are virtually trash free. Tons of wildflowers and butterflies. Gorgeous cascading rocks and tiny waterfalls in smaller creek. Beautiful example of Ozarks woodlands and glades.

A great way to enjoy fresh air, foliage, wildlife, and some history as well! It has hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. My favorite part was visiting the Carter Cemetery established in 1891. There are also downloadable maps and information at the Missouri department of conservation website. It’s free to go and enjoy and it has good parking. These photos were taken mid September.

What a wonderful place to visit while in Springfield! I'm from Texas and currently visiting the area on business. My brother (who is local) recommended we spend Sunday hiking here. Trails are very clean, much cleaner than in Texas. I did manage to find one piece of trash, which I gladly picked up and placed in the can by the gun range. Parking was plentiful and the trails were well marked. 10/10 would consider moving to Springfield since this area is so close, I could definitely spend my weekends here.

Went today after hearing they had a free outdoor shooting range, the park was beautiful and I had a great time on the range. Not sure how it is everyday but it was kinda busy but everyone was extremely friendly and I had a lot of fun

Very cool and fun trails. Always fun to see all the different wildlife.
There’s a old cemetery from
The 1800s in the middle of the forest.
