I cannot recommend this museum enough!

The woman who greeted me at the door (who I sadly/rudely never got the name of), enthusiastically led me through thw museum giving me an extremely informative, and interesting, tour. I mentioned I had a short amount of time, and she did a fantastic job, pointing at the highlights, and going into greater details when I showed additional interest.

My favorite information that I learned about was the progression of how the sponge industry in Tarpon Springs came to be, how the initial Greek immigrants were brought over through a friendship between businessmen, and all the ties this place has with pop culture in America as a whole (greek potato salad was invented here!).

I was floored to learn that the woman who helped me was a volunteer. She was born and raised in Tarpon Springs, and clearly had a love for her town. I could not believe that this was a free museum, and wish I had several hours to go through every detail. A bonus - they have a cute little gift shop corner, I bought a couple of cool photos of the town for only $8!

Please make sure to stop by here before you make your way down to the sponge docks. You won’t regret it!

A must see in Tarpon Springs. So much history about tarpon springs. So many historical pictures and antiques in the old train station. We were very surprised to find this hidden gem in downtown Tarpon Springs. Make sure you find all the stars in the museum. I will certainly visit again and spend more time on my next visit.

A lot of history in this little place. It is not really that big but a whole lot of history. The manager is very knowledgeable about the building and Tarpon Springs history. She made it very nice and educational. I learned alot about Tarpon Springs and the businesses that first started here. You learn about black owned businesses. Movies that were made in Tarpon, the sponges and docks, world war two, and so very much more. I definitely recommend visiting this place. And it is free. They do have a jar out for donations but they never ask for a dime. But I would definitely throw them a few bucks. It is totally worth it. And you just don't see buildings built like this anymore. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

I've lived in a town north of here almost my whole life and I had never been here before. It was such a nice look into the history of Tarpon Springs and how essential the railroad was to the area at the time. I would recommend a visit if you're ever in the area. It's free and a wonderful learning experience.

Old train depot turned into a museum. Lots of interesting things from a bygone era. It's air conditioned and it's free.
