This is a jewel we’ve been visiting for 30 years. First time at the campground and first summer visit. The campground is fabulous.

Good cell coverage, good access and lots of pull through sites.

We went in august during the week and did not get reservations ahead because there are NO refunds if your plans change.

Lots of great trails and over looks— we recommend Lindy Overlook. Just amazing and suitable for persons who can only hike less than a mile.

One negative— the dump station is in the middle of one of the loops!! That’s right. Between sites 40-49, approximately. Once you dump you have to make a hair pin turn to stay on the loop on the correct direction. Send someone to the left to watch for vehicles entering the loop, and go back to the main road backwards.

Blackwater Falls Campground. Aug 23-29, 2024. Beautiful. Clean. Well kept. Most sites were shaded and roomy. Restrooms/Showers were extremely clean and well cared for. Store was nice, a little pricey, good camp supplies, would have been nice to have some basic foods like bread and milk. Staff was phenomenal, accommodating and so friendly. Rangers waved each time they drove by. We had a trail through our site and the hikers were polite and respectful. Deer visited our site every dusk and dawn. Our only disappointment was the swimming lake. Beach was covered in goose mess as well as you could see it in the waters edge. Water was slimy and scummy. Paddle boats would have been nice, might even help stir the water and move the geese. Must be near a military base, fighter jets and planes flew loud and low right over us. We found it cool. The camp is close to the lodge/restaurant/pool, lots of trails and overlooks as well as several falls. Over all a great campground. Ive already recommended to my friends and family.

I love BWSP and have made the 3+ hour trip several times in the past couple years. As a waterfall enthusiast I am lucky this place is so close. It tends to be super busy but worth it. There are a lot of outdoorsy activities here and the views are . You can use your drone if you get permission from the superintendent (go to the front desk of the lodge) and follow the rules.

One of WV's great natural attractions. There are multiple observation areas to accommodate for variances in physical endurance/ability. The visitor areas had fully functional, well maintained (clean) bathrooms.
As someone with depth perception/lower visual acuity, a strip of highlight paint or other signifier on the edge of stairs would be beneficial for navigation. I did okay, but 100% of my focus has to go on the stairs instead of the pretty nature around me.
The picnic areas outside of the visitor lodge were perfect for a quick after hike snack. There was a snack bar with refreshments available.

No handicap ramps but besides that you can walk down the dirt path and wood board walk To get a killer view of the waterfalls highly recommend

This park is lovely! While visiting West Virginia, we took a day trip to see the falls. It's amazing how clean and well-kept the park is! I was truly impressed. The falls is at the bottom of a long series of steps. 200 steps! I helped my elderly mother down and back up. She said the the steps were spaced lower whichever helped her. Also be sure to take the 0.7 mile loop out to Lindy Point. It is an amazing view of the valley. And the falls are much bigger and impressive than the pictures imply. I thought it would be a small set of falls. They were beautiful. I truly enjoyed the park!

Fantastic waterfall! Area, paths, and parking were clean. Had restrooms, a snack bar, and gift shop on site. Manageable trails and stairs. There are plenty of areas to view the falls and the forest.
Definitely worth a visit!

The Blackwater Falls has decent parking. There are a lot of stairs leading to the falls. This will present a challenge for those with limited mobility. Water was lower due to current drought however the falls were cascading beautifully. Crowds did make achieving a video without additional voices in the background a little difficult. Great photo opportunities of falls and also with the Almost Heaven swing placed in the middle of descent to falls. The history provided at the site is very interesting. There is also a great souvenir shop, Blackwater Trading Co, located at the main parking lot. Wide variety of items available, from locally made items & art to t-shirts, sticker and other interesting giftware. Nearby campgrounds were nice. There was also a lot of nearby cabins available though we did not stay at them, they looked nice.
