Very large sites, many are quite private. Would be fantastic with a group of people. Short walk to the river, but the trail was flooded over (this 4 vs 5 stars) and needs drainage mitigation work.

River is within walking distance. Not too deep and slow moving, but it’s October now, maybe half full be better flow in the spring and summer.

Lots of trailers and generators at times blaring. Very dark and quiet at night, great star gazing here.

Year round and 1 hour from Reno. Great roads and access. Didn’t have the chance to visit the ruins or museum this time. Day use area around the corner was underused and we had it mostly to ourselves while scoping out the greater area.

Renovations are ongoing. The walking tour of the ruins is nice. The campgrounds looked well kept and very accessible we are looking forward to staying there.
The biggest disappointment was while talking to one of the Rangers he said that the design team didn't want to keep the model replica if the fort. This in my opinion is a huge mistake as it shows the fort as it was. Whether it fits into the design idea or not this is a vital piece of history and a great visual aspect for those who visit this amazing fort.
I truly hope they keep the history of the area and Fort Churchill and integrate these items into the design of the renovated areas.

The old Calvary army base in Nevada. At its peak, the largest military installation in Nevada during the Indian wars (Paiute) in the mud 1800's.
Not much left of the original adobe fort. They have started to reconstruct the old buildings still there. Nice museum, being remolded now by the state of Nevada.

Nice little getaway. The park rangers are some of the best there is. The river is ok but due to a lot of cattle it can get kinda mucky. The ruins and history are the gem if this place 10 outta 10 you should visit

If you like old west / historic fort type stuff, this place should be on your bucket list. I've been here three times (once by biking in from Stagecoach) and enjoy the fort remnants, displays and remote location. There are a dozen or so remmants of the original adobe structures to see which have all been reinforced. Most of the structures have nice explanatory displays. The structures are spread out so you'll get around a mile of walking in. The fort is situated in a desolate, but pretty valley. There are two original cannons on display as well as a few old wagon wheels. The cemetery contains the grave of a rancher and his family, but no Soldiers. Check out the other historic places just outside the park. Drop by river across railroad tracks.
NOTES. Museum is closed for renovations so call. Restrooms at museum have been renovated and are outstanding. ♿️ I pushed my 110 pound child around entire complex, but for some might be challenging pushing someone in some sections. Last visit, there were lots of mosquitos by museum and river.

This a a wonderful historical place to visit! The museum is excellent and told the story of the fort very well. The remains of the buildings have been maintained and the trail around the fort is very informative with many signs. I particularly liked the bakery. Close by is the Carson River with a picnic area and a campground. Bring a picnic when you visit!
