This home is very beautiful. It is an amazing display of extravagance, craftsmanship and history. I recommend the guided tour as you get to see a few things that aren't normally accessible. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, you could tell they enjoyed their job. I don't think the pictures truly show just how lovely the home is. Definitely going to visit again to do the nooks and crannies tour that takes you to even more areas of house and they play oldest working organ. I highly recommend going here if you are able.

*Update* Went with some friends on the Nooks and Crannies tour and had a blast. I anticipated it would be like the normal tour with some extras but it is an entirely different tour! I saw soo many more interesting areas of the house. Our tour guide Nikolas kept everyone interested and provided answers to all the questions asked. If you can take this tour do! I would still recommend the normal or self guided first then do the nooks and crannies

Visited the James J Hill House this afternoon and took a guided tour with Jillian. She was amazing! She had the ability to explain so much detail whilst keeping both adults and children on the tour fully engaged - she really brought the tour alive and it was fascinating to listen to her talk about the history of the house and its historic occupants. Every room was full of incredible workmanship and there were many photos on the walls depicting the Hill family over the years. We really felt we had been transported back in time as we wandered around the house and heard the stories of the lives of the family as well as what it was like to be a servant working in the house. After the tour ended we had the opportunity to walk around at our own pace and we went to the third floor to watch the short video about James J Hill. Very enjoyable afternoon and well worth the visit!

Holy moly, where do I begin? The craftsmanship of both the exterior and the interior are mind-bogglingly phenomenal. The woodwork was intricately carved, the china delicately gorgeous, and even though most of the furnishings are no longer in the house, period photos gave a glimpse of the sheer opulence bygone days. Not to mention what must have once been a fabulous view from all the windows. Utterly fascinating look at how the rich are different from you and I - absolutely unmissable.

It's a shame a lot of the furnishings were absent here but still a beautiful home to tour. The tour guide did awesome with the details of the home and memories of the Hill family.

Exceptional tour… well paced with a variety of information and an honest reflection on the impact that Hill had as both a pioneer and the cost to indigenous peoples land.

It’s a beautiful, well-preserved estate with some mind-blowing “technology “ for its time - complete with a ‘burglar alarm system’ that sounded an alert if a window was opened!

The tour is accessible with elevators available and chairs at most areas where the guide pauses to provide information , but does move quickly, so may not be ideal for anyone with mobility issues.

James was just another freemason who didn’t care about the natives. These masonic museums are deceptive and filled with lies. He is apart of a dark organization that wants to control the majority, the knights templar. As part of a paid guided tour, there was no mention of the large room with a massive organ! This was the most interesting part of the home in my opinion. Save your money and avoid the lies.

Took a school group here. Geared towards middle schoolers but our older kids still had fun. It felt a bit rushed even though we were the only group there at the opening. We didn't get any free time to check out the rooms more and only saw parts of the main floor and basement. We were able to squeeze in a few questions at the end but the rushed pace made us feel like we needed to leave right away. We didn't get a chance to even look at the gift shop before our kids had been let back outside unfortunately. Just wished we had had a bit more time!
