Awe-inspiring views!

We had a very nice time hiking here. It had just rained, and the temperature and humidity got pretty high, but it was still very much worth stopping.

We spent about 2 1/2 hours taking in the sites. There was one section that was closed off (didn't deter at least one hiker), but otherwise, we saw quite a bit. One section was a little too muddy to go in all the way (deep, thick, quicksand-like mud, lol), but I could still get in enough to get a few good shots.

I highly recommend visiting, though it's probably a bit easier to traverse if it hasn't just rained.

Absolutely loved this park! The rocks are so beautiful and amazing! My best advice is, wear your old tennis shoes and not white ones! There was lots of slick and muddy places that are an absolute “must see”. Wear shoes with good grip. Carry your water and snacks before heading out to the trails. To be able to see the good spots you have to go down lots of stairs, so I highly suggest that you be prepared! There’s a place to wash your feet and shoes at the entrance of the trail.

Beautiful park. I definitely recommend hiking down where the Lake Falls are to hike down in the lower dells. Very worthwhile. You can cover the dells bluff trail un under 2 hours. It depends how much you go up and down the stairs. Be prepared with proper footwear for the mud. Definitely worth it to hike down to some spots though below!

So much better than Starved Rock. This actually felt like a park and not some big city tourist destination. A lot of the trails were narrow and winding with lots of opportunities to cross water and slippery rocks. Bring your boots. We saw multiple frogs at waterside and chipmunks running through the branches. Lots of squirrels which I didn't see at starved rock either.
There are actually normal bathrooms here with running water and electricity. Even the guy's bathroom had about 10 urinals and six stalls. There were lots of maps but they're not always useful. There are plenty of places to picnic and barbecue. Dog friendly park

Even though we are in the middle of a drought and the waterfall isn't what it could be, it was still very cool to be able to explore areas that are normally under water. The paths were easy to navigate and well marked and the overall experience was just amazing, especially with the changing of the leaves. The best part is all the doggos. OMG, so many sweet, beautiful dogs.

We barely scratched what can be explored but we had limited time, unfortunately. I would love to come back again very soon. I recommend it to any outdoor enthusiast.

Very scenic park, particularly the river canyon areas with several small waterfalls. Main trails are wide and generally in very good condition. Non canyon trails are in very mature, scenic forests. Surfaces are generally smooth, not rocky or exposed roots. Could use more signage, particularly in the more remote intersections. Canyon River areas are very wet, and if you want to move about may be underwater for long stretches. Many steps down from main lot, and also down to the river level. Falls road very rough, dusty and narrow. Very limited parking spots there.
