Washington Artillery Park is a fantastic spot to take in the beauty of New Orleans, offering one of the best vantage points of Jackson Square and the historic St. Louis Cathedral. Perched above the riverfront, it provides a peaceful overlook where you can catch the charm of the French Quarter with a touch of serenity. The park itself is dedicated to the Washington Artillery, a historic military unit, and features a cannon as a tribute, adding a unique historical aspect to the scenic views.

From this spot, you can see street performers below, jazz bands filling the air with lively music, and the bustle of people enjoying New Orleans. It’s a popular spot for photos, especially during sunset, when the colors illuminate the cathedral and the Mississippi River in the background. Given its central location, it’s easy to stop by for a quick break while exploring the area, making it both convenient and memorable.

For anyone visiting Jackson Square, Washington Artillery Park is a must-stop, whether for the view, the history, or simply a moment to soak in the atmosphere of New Orleans.

It’s a small raised area with stairways in the front off of Decatur St and smaller stairs leading up to it from behind, on the Mississippi River side.

Even though it’s fairly simple to see, it does provide a fantastic view of Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathedral! Also, you will be facing just shy of the sunset, which gives you even more of a reason to check it out during the evening hours!

This is a fantastic place to visit during the sunset. You can enjoy a great view of the river and the Jackson Square with the Saint Louis Church as background. If you are lucky then some musician could be performing some instrument and you can enjoy the music and the landscape. Many tourists from everywhere. Don't forget to take great pictures.

Amazingly, Washington artillery Park has no artillery because apparently WE want to WOKEWASH the fact that sometimes people have cannons and use them against other people for various reasons.

As someone who has cocked cannons in the service of this great country, I say phooey on the pearl-clutching bedwetters who think that other humans will shrivel at the mere presence of a cannon and the history surrounding it, no matter how unpleasant it may be.

Known for its festive spirit of the Mardi Gras and vibrant nightlife. New Orleans has a lot more to offer. The rich history and beauty are almost mystical. In particular, Washington Artillery Park and Jackson Square. Even though not considered entirely safe for travelers, it remains a personal preference. During our time spent cycling, around the remarkable landmarks reduced possible risk, and make short stops to take in the beauty.
A definite thumbs up in my book and most certainly a revisit.
